One-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jug with Kaolin Slip Decoration, attributed to Thomas Chandler, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1850, semi-ovoid jug with semi-squared spout, decorated with a slip-trailed kaolin-slip wreath motif against a gray-green alkaline-glazed ground. Provenance: From a fifty-year SC collection. A thin horizontal crack around most of base, including a vertical crack descending from this crack across underside and adjoining a horizontal crack on the opposing side. A piece of adhered in-the-firing clay at shoulder. H 12".
