Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar with Kaolin Slip Decoration, attributed to Thomas Chandler, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1850, semi-ovoid jar with tapered shoulder and slightly-flared rim, decorated with a looping drape design in slip-trailed kaolin slip against a greenish alkaline-glazed ground. Provenance: From a fifty-year SC collection. A thin Y-shaped crack across underside, continuing a short distance onto base in two places and extending 5 1/2" diagonally up base of jar in another place. A 1" rim chip. H 13".
