Rare Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar with Kaolin Slip Decoration, Edgefield District, SC, mid 19th century, squat-shaped, flaring jar with slightly-flared rim and flattened tab handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a wavy drape motif in slip-trailed kaolin slip against a tannish-green ground. Unusual form to the vessel and style to the drape design, related to Chandler motif. A thin 3 1/2" crack from rim. A 2 1/4" hairline from rim. A thin horizontal crack around much of base. Two small chips to interior of rim. Three small chips to one handle. Two small chips to opposing handle. Small chips to inner rim for lid. Some staining to exterior. H 8 1/2" ; Diam. (at rim) 7 3/8".
