Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird Decoration, attributed to "WM E. WARNER / WEST-TROY.," NY State origin, mid 19th century, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, narrow rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with slip-trailed design of a bird with heavy feather detail and leaf in its beak, perched on a scrolled vine. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Provenance: William Bouck Collection. Two very large adjacent sections reglued on reverse, including small chips along break. A thin 5 3/4" crack from rim on front. A few minor in-the-firing pings to front. A large loss to one handle. Some staining to exterior. A 4 1/2" inverted Y-shaped line from rim on proper left side of crock, descending from a chip. Interior with an in-the-firing flake and water glass staining. H 8 3/4".
