Extremely Rare One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stamped "E. FRARY & Co / E. HARTFORD," CT origin, early 19th century, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, and applied lug handles, featuring cobalt highlights to the maker's mark and handle terminals. This jar is the first example of stoneware bearing this maker's mark that we have offered. The stamp includes the unusual location, "E. Later, faint blue-painted decoration added. A 1 1/4" in-the-firing flake to underside. A second small chip to underside at edge. A 2 1/4" line to underside, forming a thin 5" crack extending up base on front. Two in-the-firing surface chips near base, measuring 1 1/8" and 3/4". A 5/8" chip to exterior of rim and a minor chip to interior of rim. Some light surface wear. H 9 1/2".
