Unusual Lidded Stoneware Cake Crock, Northeastern U.S. origin, early 19th century, with unusually-shaped handles, decorated on front and reverse with stylized drape-and-tassel and spotted drape motifs. Heavy cobalt highlights to handles. Includes lid with cobalt scalloping and spots surrounding a cobalt-highlighted knob finial. Although the lid is slightly small for the crock, it nevertheless appears to be original to it. A 1 1/4" in-the-firing rim chip and two other minor rim chips. Chipping around bottom edge. Some in-the-firing surface-level crazing to shoulder on one side, not visible on interior. Some typical in-the-firing pings and contact marks to surface. A 1" glazed-over in-the-firing ping to one side and other minor in-the-firing surface flaws. Lid with slight warp, a 4" crack from edge, a narrow flake to flange on underside, and a few small chips.
