Monumental Ten-Gallon Stoneware Water Cooler with Incised Floral Decoration, Stamped "GOODWIN & WEBSTER / HARTFORD", CT origin, circa 1815, large-sized, keg-form cooler with recessed top, tooled and cobalt-highlighted banding, and circular bung hole at base, the front decorated with an incised and cobalt-highlighted design of three flowers emanating from a central stem. Heavy dashed incising throughout decoration. Impressed with the cobalt-highlighted makers' mark, "GOODWIN & WEBSTER / HARTFORD", below design. Exceptional size, form, and decoration. Possibly the finest example of Goodwin & Webster stoneware we have ever offered. Restored crack extending from rim to shoulder. A second restored crack descending from area to right of decoration onto underside. Shallow chips to top of rim. A few shallow chips to edge and top. Chipping to base, some of which occurred before the cooler was decorated. H 21 3/4".
