Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Grapes Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG .PA," circa 1865, ovoid jug with semi-rounded spout, brush-decorated with a cluster of eight grapes hanging from a vine with looping tendril and detailed leaf. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. Provenance: Herb and Carol Hausmann Collection. A narrow 1 1/2" contact mark (flake) to bottom edge and two other small in-the-firing base chips. A minor, in-the-firing iron ping to shoulder, which is glazed over, and other typical in-the-firing surface flaws. Some in-the-firing surface-level fissures to underside. Areas of staining to bottom half of jug. H 14".
