One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Grapes Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX. / HARRISBURG .PA," circa 1865, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and flattened rim, brush-decorated with a leafy, spotted vine bearing a cluster of eight grapes. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Provenance: Herb and Carol Hausmann Collection. A 5/8" rim chip on reverse with a 2 1/2" line descending from it. A 1 1/4" Y-shaped surface line to shoulder on reverse, not visible on interior. Some minor in-the-firing surface pings. Some light wear to cobalt. Minor staining to surface. H 9".
