Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG, PA," circa 1865, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, brush-decorated with a leafy vine bearing a carrot-shaped blossom composed of graduated horizontal strokes. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. A Y-shaped crack across underside, forming a crack curving 4" up base on front. A minor chip to interior of rim. A 7/8" in-the-firing iron ping to side of jar, which is glazed over. Some staining to surface. H 12 7/8".
