Exceptional Three-Gallon Stoneware Water Cooler with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to Henry Harrison Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1835, cylindrical cooler with tapered shoulder, rounded rim, applied lug handles, and stepped bunghole; cooler's front brush-decorated with an extravagant flowering plant design featuring drooping fan-shaped blossoms accented with spots. The plant culminates in a fan-shaped blossom extending to the shoulder. Reverse decorated with a horizontal stem bearing graduated leaves and fan-shaped flowers. Each handle is decorated below with a garland bearing a single three-petaled flower. Cobalt highlights to bunghole and handle terminals. Outstanding decoration and color. Among the finest floral-decorated coolers by the Remmey family known. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with some glazed-over, in-the-firing pings to surface and some minor wear to outer edge of bunghole. H 15 1/2".
