Fine Three-Gallon Stoneware Water Cooler with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to Henry H. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1835, cylindrical cooler with tapered shoulder, squared rim, applied lug handles, and stepped bunghole, brush-decorated with a two-stemmed flowering plant bearing stylized blossoms composed with spots and tassel-shaped strokes. Reverse with horizontal garland bearing three blossoms. Floral garland below each handle. Cobalt highlights to bunghole and handle terminals. Swag decoration flanking the bunghole. Outstanding decoration and color. A tight 3" crack from rim on side of cooler. A 3/4" chip to interior of rim. A 2" Y-shaped line on underside, continuing 2 1/2" up base on side of cooler. A few base chips on reverse. H 15 1/2".
