Fine Glazed Redware Figure of a Standing Dog, PA origin, possibly Philadelphia, circa 1850-1880, hand-modeled figure of a dog with curled tail, slightly-turned head, and basket of apples in its mouth, standing atop an oval base. Figure includes heavy gouged incising to coat, impressed eyes, incised details to muzzle and paws, incised and impressed collar, and impressed details to basket. Base with circle-decorated border surrounding impressed flower, star, and elliptical designs. Decorated throughout with manganese daubs over reddish-orange clay and covered in a clear lead glaze. The color of the glazed clay and manganese on this example are reminiscent of those found on redware produced by the Haig family of Philadelphia. Very nice condition with light wear.
