One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Batter Pail, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG, PA," circa 1865, ovoid form with tubular pouring spout, handle at base on reverse, and applied clay tabs with wood-and-wire bail handle. Brush-decorated on the reverse with a large wreath and on the front with two large flower blossoms including looped details around their stems. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, handle terminals, and applied clay tabs. Chips to spout. A Y-shaped crack on reverse descending to shoulder area. Some small spots of fry to cobalt. H 8 1/2".
