Three-Quart Stoneware Batter Pail with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG, PA," circa 1865, ovoid form with tubular pouring spout, handle at base on reverse, and applied clay tabs with wood-and-wire bail handle; brush-decorated on the reverse with a large horizontal tulip motif. Wreath decoration to base of spout. Unusual three-quart size. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals and applied clay tabs. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with a small in-the-firing contact mark to front. H 8 1/4".
