Stoneware Canning Jar with Stenciled Cobalt Shield Decoration, Stenciled "JAS. HAMILTON / & CO. / GREENSBORO. / PA.," circa 1875, tapered jar with rounded "wax sealer" rim, featuring James Hamilton maker's stenciling within a shield. A few in-the-firing burns. Chips to interior of rim and inner wax sealer rim. A 3 3/4" hairline from rim on reverse. A 1 1/2" hairline from rim on front. One base chip. Some wear to cobalt. H 8 1/8".
