Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Cake Crock, Stenciled "JAS. HAMILTON & CO. / MANUFACTURERS / GREENSBORO. PA.," circa 1875, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, featuring banner-shaped James Hamilton maker's stenciling above a freehand "2" flanked by swags. Freehand stripe decoration to shoulder and base. Incised "X" on underside. A chip to interior of rim. Staining to exterior. A salt drip below one handle. Dimensions: L 9 1/2" x H 8".
