Scarce and Fine One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Eagle-and-Banner Decoration, Stamped "WM E WARNER. / WEST-TROY," NY State origin, circa 1855, cylindrical jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a flying eagle holding a banner in its beak. Spotted details to eagle and banner. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark. An unusually small-sized vessel for this design, this example features exceptional color and lacks the fry to the cobalt so typical of Warner eagles. A newly discovered example. Excellent condition with a shallow 3/4" base chip on reverse, some staining, and a fairly typical in-the-firing contact mark to top of handle. H 10 1/2".
