Stoneware Canning Jar with Elaborate Manganese Decoration, attributed to George Newman Fulton, Alleghany County, VA, circa 1875, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and flared rim, the body half-dipped in light-colored slip and brushed-decorated completely around with diagonal floral and swag motifs. Very nice condition. An area of surface wear to shoulder. A few tiny base (at least of which occurred in the firing). A small rim chip and minor rim wear. A minor nick to shoulder molding. H 8 7/8".
