Fine One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Manganese Floral Decoration, Signed "G.N. Fulton", Alleghany County, VA origin, circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded rim, profusely-decorated with manganese floral motifs and flourishes, extending around to the sides of the jar. Base inscribed with the brushed manganese signature, "G.N. Fulton", underscored by flower blossoms. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, recently discovered in Florida. Some wear to manganese slip and a gritty area to front, caused by touching another object during the firing.
