Rare Salt-Glazed Stoneware Jar, Incised "Geo. N. Fulton / Maker / 1870," Alleghany County, VA, 1870, semi-ovoid jar with tooled banding and flattened rim, featuring the incised-script signature and date, "Geo. N. Fulton / Maker / 1870," the date bordered by small incised dashes. Jar measures roughly one-and-a-half to two gallons. Pieces bearing Fulton's incised signature are significantly rarer than those bearing his brushed-slip signature. A 6" crack from rim on reverse and a 3" hairline from rim on reverse. Some exfoliation to reverse. Wear to rim. H 10".
