One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J.W. COWDEN," Harrisburg, PA, circa 1861, ovoid jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with an unusual design of a spotted blossom flanked by splayed leaves. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. Provenance: From a recently-surfaced PA collection, purchased by the consignor between 1963 and 1975. Two chips to exterior of spout and one chip to interior of spout. Two minor in-the-firing pings near base on reverse. H 11 1/4".
