Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to E.B. Hisong, Cassville, PA, mid 19th century, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and ribbed lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with an undulating vine bearing four large flowers. Brushed cobalt-script "3" under one handle. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Exceptional color. Chipping around base. Some in-the-firing flaws and wear to surface. A 1 3/4" rim chip and a few small rim chips. A glazed-over 1 1/2" rim chip, which was smoothed over a bit prior to firing. An inverted 2" Y-shaped surface line to one side, not visible on interior. H 13 3/4".
