Extremely Rare Slip-Decorated Stoneware Match Safe, attributed to the Hissong Family, Huntingdon County, PA, fourth quarter 19th century, cup-shaped form on pedestal base, the surface dipped in Albany slip and decorated in lighter slip with brushed chain links. Exceptional form and unusual slip treatment distinctive to Hyssong pieces from Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. Provenance: Label on underside reads, "Hyssong Pottery / Huntingdon & Cassville / Purchased from Viola / Hyssong 3/18/65 / Dean H. Reynolds / Col. / #25B." A 3/4" base chip. A 5/8" chip to interior of rim. H 3".
