Rare Vergennes, VT Stoneware Advertising Jug with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "FORT EDWARD / POTTERY CO.," George Saterlee, Fort Edward, NY, circa 1859, cylindrical jug with squared spout, featuring a large slip-trailed design of a bird perched on a curving branch. Doubly-stamped with rare advertising for "L. ALLEN, / E?????, / near Vergennes, Vt." above a Fort Edward Pottery Co maker's stamp. Provenance: Marlin G. Denlinger Auction, Walter Washburn Collection, July 19, 1992. Sticker for the auction on reverse. Cobalt highlights to marks. Some oversalting to decoration. Minor in-the-firing chipping to bottom edge. An in-the-firing contact mark to right of bird. Some faint crazing to surface. Black mark number, "221," on underside. H 14".
