Scarce Six-Quart Stoneware Cake Crock with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "HAXSTUN & CO. / FORT EDWARD, N.Y.," circa 1880, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a crested bird perched on a looping flourish. Cobalt accents to maker's mark and capacity mark. A lesser-seen form for this design. Very nice condition with a shallow 7/8" chip to interior of rim, a minuscule nick to interior of rim, and a small salt drip to rim and handle. Additionally, the number "118" written in black marker on underside. H 6 1/2" ; Diam. 10".
