Very Rare Stoneware Apple Butter Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG, PA," circa 1865, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, flattened rim, and applied handle on reverse, decorated with a horizontally-brushed design of a tulip. Faint cobalt highlights to maker's mark. Highly unusual form for this maker. Some fry to cobalt. A shallow 5/8" base chip. Two small, adjacent glazed-over base chips. H 6 7/8"; Diam. (across top) 7 1/2".
