Very Rare One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stamped "J. BOYNTON," Albany, NY, circa 1816-1818, ovoid jar with heavily-tooled shoulder and applied lug handles, decorated with brushed cobalt X on the reverse and cobalt highlights to the maker's mark and handle terminals. The first example of signed Jonah Boynton stoneware that we have offered. Provenance: Recently surfaced in NJ. Excellent condition with some minor in-the-firing chipping to base and a 1 1/2" line at base. H 8 1/2".
