Unusual Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar with Impressed C Stamps, Edgefield District, SC, probably Lewis Miles Stony Bluff Manufactory, circa 1860, approximately five-gallon, ovoid jar with footed base, narrow mouth, and flattened lug handles, the surface covered in a mottled brown alkaline glaze with heavy runs. Impressed with the letter "C" three times on top of one handle. Appealing glaze and form. A filled and colored 3/8" BB hole to midsection on one side. A shallow 5/8" chip to top of rim and a tiny rim chip. Two in-the-firing pings to opposite side. A very tight 3" line from rim. A faint 2" vertical line at base. One handle with a shallow 1 1/8" chip and a minor chip. H 16 1/2".
