Fine Five-Gallon Open-Handled Stoneware Jar with Alkaline Glaze, attributed to Lucius Jordan, Washington County, GA, circa 1865, thin-walled, ovoid jar with heavily-tooled shoulder, flared rim, and two applied strap handles at the shoulder, the surface covered in a light-green alkaline glaze. Shoulder incised with a large script "5." Provenance: Collection of Dr. John A. Burrison, Atlanta, GA; on loan to the Atlanta History Center, Atlanta, GA since 1981. A 1 7/8" rim chip with a 1 1/4" hairline descending from it. Three additional smaller rim chips. A few small surface flakes to underside. H 17".
