Scarce Three-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Albany, NY origin, circa 1860, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed designed of a bird with long tail and well-detailed body, perched on a tree stump. Slip-trailed "3" to shoulder. Some light fry to cobalt. A minor nick to one handle. A small chip to opposite handle. Two small chips to interior of rim, one of which is glazed over. A tight 8 1/2" diagonal hairline extending from shoulder on reverse below handle on crock's left side. H 10 1/4".
