Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird-on-Stump Decoration, Stamped "ALBANY N Y," probably R. O'Connell Pottery, Albany, NY, circa 1860, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a crested bird with heavily-detailed body, perched on a tree stump atop a stylized ground. Slip-trailed "2" above. Rare maker's mark and excellent decoration. Some fry to cobalt. A 4 1/4" Y-shaped crack on underside, the tail of which continues 3 1/2" up front of crock. H 8 1/2".
