Two-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "J.A. & C.W. UNDERWOOD / FORT EDWARD, N.Y.", circa 1865-1867, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a crested bird perched on a stylized branch. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Very nice condition. An in-the-firing, scale-like ping above maker's mark. A tiny chip or ping to interior of rim. A minor in-the-firing iron ping to exterior of rim on side of crock. Some light staining. H 9".
