Unusual Slip-Decorated Redware Jar, probably New England origin, early to mid 19th century, flaring jar with inward-tapering shoulder and thin rim, decorated around the body with wavy brushed manganese stripes and along the shoulder with upswept manganese swags. Surface covered in a clear lead glaze over a maroon-colored ground. Good form and decoration. Excellent condition with a short, faint line on underside, continuing a short distance onto base, as well as a thin, 2 1/2" in-the-firing contact mark to shoulder. H 6 1/4".
