Two Stoneware Jugs with Pittsburgh Advertising, Western PA origin, circa 1875, with graduated stripes to shoulder, one stenciled "GEo. W. McCLURE / FAMILY / GROCERIES / 346 / LIBERTY ST.," the other stenciled "B.L. FAHNESTOCK / & CO. / PITTSBURGH. / PA" with Celtic cross at center. McClure jug with spout chips, some in-the-firing surface flaws, areas of light surface wear, and faint traces of old black paint to surface. Shorter jug with a network of tight in-the-firing cracks in underside, extending up front where they are glazed over, a loss to side of spout, a small chip to rear of spout, and a tiny nick to front of spout. H (of taller jug) 14 3/4".
