Four-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Grapes Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG, PA," circa 1865, ovoid jug with tooled shoulder and tapered spout, decorated with a brushed design of a cluster of grapes hanging from a branch with two leaves and three looping vines. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. Unusual, wide-based form. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with a 1" glazed-over iron ping to handle. H 15 1/2".
