Ten-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stenciled "HAMILTON & JONES / GREENSBORO, PA," circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with freehand stripes and vining, stenciled floral and geometric designs surrounding Hamilton & Jones maker's stenciling, and the stenciled inscription "10 / GALLON." at base. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Some gritty, light-colored in-the-firing residue to base on front. Some other light surface wear and light surface staining. A 1 3/8" chip to left handle. Some shallow in-the-firing chipping to base. Some hairlines to underside, one of which extends 3 3/4" up base on front. H 20 1/4".
