Four-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Foliate Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG, PA," circa 1865, semi-ovoid jug with tooled shoulder and semi-squared spout, decorated with a large brushed design of a leafy stem. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. Exceptional color. Excellent condition, with a glazed-over iron ping below decoration, a minor piece of adhered clay to left side of jug, and some very minor chipping to spout.
