Unusual Four-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Stenciled Federal Eagle Motif, Stenciled "EAGLE POTTERY," circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a stenciled design of a spread-winged Federal eagle holding a banner, inscribed "EAGLE POTTERY.". Freehand "4" to base. Staining to surface. Faintness to base of stenciling. A 5 1/2" vertical line from rim on front. A 1 5/8" loss to handle. Light wear to surface. A 3" line to underside, extending 4" up base.
