Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar with Stenciled Eagle Motif, Stenciled "EAGLE POTTERY.", James Hamilton, Greensboro, PA, circa 1875, tapered jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded "wax sealer" rim, decorated with a stenciled design of a spread-winged Federal eagle holding a banner in its beak, inscribed "EAGLE POTTERY." Two freehand stripes to shoulder and a freehand stripe to base. A large Y-shaped crack extending from rim to midsection on front. A thin 3 3/4" crack from rim on reverse, which includes a small chip to inner rim. A 4" vertical surface line to side of jar, not visible on interior. A small base chip. A minor base nick and a minor, glazed-over base nick. A chip and small worn area to bottom edge of rim on front. Some staining. H 9 3/4".
