Outstanding Small-Sized Stoneware Canning Jar with Stenciled Cobalt Pears Decoration, Stenciled "Greensboro", Greensboro, PA, circa 1870, tapered jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded "wax sealer" rim, decorated with a stenciled design of two pears hanging from a leafy stem, below the stenciled town name, "Greensboro". Freehand cobalt stripe below rim. Desirable size and subject matter, featuring crisp stenciling. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with a minor pre-firing scratch to front, which is glazed over. H 6 3/4".
