Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Impressed Bird and Eagle Motifs, Stamped "JACOB CAIRE / POKEEPSIE NY," circa 1849-1852, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and flared rim, decorated with impressed and cobalt-highlighted design of song birds in a branch and raised-wing Federal eagle with shield, perched atop a globe. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark. This jar is the first Caire example decorated with these stamps that we have ever offered. Two in-the-firing chips to underside at edge. A 3/4" in-the-firing surface chip to shoulder, a minor in-the-firing iron ping to front, and a small in-the-firing surface chip to right side. Minor rim chips.
