Scarce Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Reclining Dog Decoration, Stamped "ADAM CAIRE / POUGHKEEPSIE N Y," circa 1885, cylindrical crock with tooled shouder, semi-squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a dog with turned head and spotted body, reclining atop a hill surrounded by shrubs. Desirable figural design with very nice color. 6 1/2" hairline to right of decoration. 4" vertical hairline at base on side of crock, extending 4 1/4" onto underside. Otherwise excellent condition.
