Scarce Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Wreath Motif, Stamped "P. WINE," attributed to William Nichols, Poughkeepsie, NY, circa 1823, ovoid jug with footed base, tooled shoulder, and distinctive flattened and tooled spout, brush-decorated with a stylized wreath surrounding the impressed and cobalt-highlighted beverage name, "P. WINE," for "PORT WINE." One spout chip. Some bubbling to cobalt and typical in-the-firing contact marks. H 14".
