Large-Sized Stoneware "GR" Mug with Incised Checkerboard Decoration, Westerwald, Germany origin, 18th century, cylindrical form with heavily-tooled banding, decorated with a diagonally-incised checkerboard design, surrounding an impressed "GR" cartouche. Cobalt highlights throughout. Inscribed "1/2" in cobalt on reverse. A tight Y-shaped line across underside. Some additional faint surface crazing to underside. A 1 1/4" line from rim on exterior, a very small portion of which is visible on the interior. Some additional very faint, minor lines to interior and exterior, probably in-the-making. H 7 7/8" ; Diam. (at base) 5 15/16".
