Four-Gallon Glazed Redware Crock, Galena, IL origin, second half 19th century, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, large rounded rim, and applied lug handles, the surface covered in a lead glaze over a mottled orange and green ground with iron flecking throughout. Impressed "4" at shoulder. Provenance: From a long-term private collection of Galena, IL redware consigned to this auction. A fork-shaped crack on underside, including a single crack extending from it 9" up crock's front. The fork-shaped crack additionally continues from the underside onto the reverse, where it forms a large, curving crack. A 3" hairline from rim on side of crock. Right handle with two small chips and additional light wear. Left handle with minor nicks. H 12 3/8".
