Fine Slip-Decorated Redware Canning Jar with Lid, Galena, IL origin, second half 19th century, cylindrical jar with rounded shoulder and flared rim, the upper portion of the jar with heavily-dipped slip decoration, the entire surface covered in a clear lead glaze. Includes slip-coated Galena, IL redware lid, which does not fit jar perfectly. Excellent color. Provenance: From a long-term private collection of Galena, IL redware consigned to this auction. Jar with wear to top of rim and some scattered glaze flakes to surface. Lid with a chip and wear to knob and light wear to outer edge. H (of jar) 8 1/2".
