Georgius Rex Stoneware Jug with Incised Decoration, Westerwald, Germany origin, circa 1740, ovoid form with footed base and combed incising to collar, the front featuring a molded and applied "GR" medallion, surrounded by elaborate incised and impressed decoration. Heavy cobalt highlights to body. Manganese highlight to collar. Impressed "3" on reverse. An in-the-firing line to surface line, extending partway through lower handle terminal. An in-the-firing contact mark to handle, including salt residue. A thin, tightly-sealed crack from rim, which becomes a faint hairline. This crack includes a second very faint line, which extends diagonally from it. H 8 1/2".
