Scarce Half-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to the Samuel Irvine Pottery, Newville, PA, circa 1865, ovoid pitcher with footed base and tooled collar, the front decorated with a flowering plant with elongated blossom and curved stem. Brushed cobalt swag decorated to rim and flanking the spout. Unusual wavy line decoration to handle. Brushed cobalt highlights surrounding handle terminals and highlighting the center of the lower terminal. An approximately 2 1/2" glazed-over, in-the-firing line at base, continuing 1 1/4" onto underside. Additionally, a 1" glazed-over in-the-firing line at base, continuing 1" onto underside. H 9".
