Extremely Rare Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Wreath Decoration, Stamped "SHARPLESS & EYER / BLOOMSBURG, PA", fourth quarter 19th century, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed and slip-trailed design of a wreath bearing large, four-petaled flower blossoms and small leave. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark. This jar is the first example of stoneware we have seen bearing this Central PA maker's mark. A 6" crack on underside, which forms a T at base. Some small areas of bubbling to cobalt.
